The Houses of Parliament and Elizabeth Tower, also known as Big Ben, is the icon of the city. Wherever you have travelled from, you can’t mistake the famous big clock. Big Ben is actually the name given to the massive bell inside the clock tower, which weighs more than 13 tons.. Each dial is seven metres in diameter. There are 312 pieces of glass in each clock dial and a special light above the clock face is illuminated when parliament is in session. To see the clock itself, it is best if you are on foot. You can also see it via a bus, and there are several London bus routes that go past the tower. Westminster Tube station is across the road, where you can catch the Jubilee, District and Circle lines. Big Ben is only 30 minutes via tube, door to door from the Signature Townhouse Hyde Park.
